Look at this guy’s face. I mean, he's the happiest guy ever. I… I wanna, I gotta be like that.
“They're expecting winds up to 15 miles per hour and a wintery mix- How will that impact your ability to throw the ball?”
“I'm so happy and grateful and the Lord has blessed me to play in some snow, to be in true football weather, in Cleveland Ohio at Huntington Bank’s field today to give Him the glory. It’s a beautiful day.” “So weather conditions tonight…”
It is a beautiful day.
What is Jameis Winston doing that seems to be working? I mean, when I watch that, it's like whatever he's doing, on some level, we probably need more of that in the world. He says “ I am so happy and grateful that the Lord has blessed me”. What… what a phrase, what a mindset. He's thanking God, he's grateful even in a moment which might seem like a small moment, but a moment of potential struggle.
And that's what our life is. That's what life can really be about. The Bible actually talks about this. It talks about anxiety. It talks about fear and God says, in Philippians 4 verse 6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.
God, who designed our brains, created us with the impossibility to be grateful and anxious at the same time. You can feel one thing in a singular moment, then you can feel another thing in the next, but they are not happening simultaneously. To be grateful and anxious doesn't happen.
So, God tells us instead of being anxious; in earnest prayer and in giving thanks by being grateful. (“I'm so happy I’m grateful”) Part of our mind can be just silenced and protected and we can change our attitude and give these things to God, especially when they're too big or,at least, they seem too big.
So what should we do? Simple enough. Be thankful in the little things. Remember those moments. Keep those things in our frame of mind to take a moment. Be thankful for that day, for that breath, that actual life that we have. Make a conscious effort to bring them into focus. Anxiety and stress don't have to be the norm. God, as usual, gives us a way out of it.
