So I go to the grocery store–I don’t know–like 4 days a week. My wife, I used to drive her crazy because I’d buy all the wrong things. Now, this solves all that. Just come in here and they bring it right out to me. Amazing. But then I just sit here, alone with my thoughts or casually doomscrolling. Please, what I’m about to talk about, might be something sensitive to you; I’m just gonna share a few thoughts, and I thought what better way to do that than with a bunch of strangers on social media.
Do Christians even care if Christmas has pagan customs mixed in? That’s something I have to ask myself, over and over: if I’m a person who loves Jesus Christ, I want to follow Jesus Christ, and I say that I follow what Jesus Christ, do I actually do the things He says or He asks me to do?
Oh, I think my groceries are here. One second. It’s great; I love this; thank you so much; have a good one!If we could sit here and go through every single historical data point and find, unequivocally, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that Christmas incorporated ancient traditions worshipping false gods, would that stop us from doing it?
Many Christmas customs and decorations such as gifts, mistletoe, trees, all of that comes from Pagan, Roman, and Germanic practices that have been absorbed and reinterpreted. Why do Christians–and I mean it–why do Christians spend so much time and effort trying to justify the tradition of Christmas, which is at best, a mixture of good intentions to honor Jesus Christ that is rooted in pagan customs?
Should we trust people? Should we believe them? Should you believe me? Some random guy you’ve never met picking up his groceries? Or should we look to God and the Bible–the Book that He wrote?
