Are science and faith compatible? Some of the challenges to faith in God comes from the world of science, but are science and faith really opposed to each other?
One popular secular view is that belief in God is completely incompatible with the incredible success of scientific discoveries. Others think science and religion don’t conflict as long as they’re separated. They believe science can explain the natural world while religion can provide purpose, meaning, and value.
Despite this, many well respected scientists believe rational science and faith in God are indeed comparable. According to science, the universe had a beginning– this is consistent with Genesis 1:1 which is the foundation of Judeo-Christian belief. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.”
This has been challenged by some who claim God is not necessary to explain the cosmos; however, removing God presents a fundamental problem: how can something come from nothing?
